The acclaimed director tests his directorial skills through this clever paranormal narrative filmed completely from the perspective of a ghost. After a clan including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their recent residence, the filming device – AKA the Presence – shadows their actions. The daughter appears conscious of the supernatural presence, and it looks like guarding her. Yet what is the reason? The premise is enjoyable that doesn't outstay its welcome, with a twist that may be unexpected. Saturday 11 October, afternoon and evening times, Sky Cinema Premiere

The Black Phone
Scott Derrickson's contained scarefest holds up well even without a continuation. Located in 1970s Colorado, multiple disappearances has rendered the local kids on edge. When Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and locked up in a cellar, he fears a fatal end. However, the non-functional line mounted nearby continues to ring, with ghostly voices providing assistance, and the intuitive nightmares of his sister Gwen could save him. A genuinely scary movie. This Saturday, late evening, on Film4
This Dramatic Portrait
In the conflict between faith and wealth, it's a knockout win for Mammon in this director's wonderfully garish true story of the disgraced televangelist and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield portrays the greedy Jim, who states early on, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple set about capitalizing on the people's religious faith. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, bad makeup and hypocrisy, yet Jessica Chastain succeeds to show the character in a likable light. October 14th, late night, the Film4 channel
